Rajasthan: In Rajasthan's Dholpur, over thousands of villagers still cross Parvati river with the help of a wooden cot placed on air filled tube. Crossing the river in such a risky way is the only way for villagers and school students to reach, school, hospital or even market. The situation was highlighted after a video went viral on the Internet, in which two female students were seen crossing the river while putting their lives at risk.

This risky crossing does not happen only during monsoon but throughout the year as the river is perennial. People from villagers from Aari, Madhaiya, Bhura Ka Pura, Baghelon Ka Pura, Mahant Ka Adda and Panchhi Ka Pura have been crossing the river in this manner for years.

In the viral video, two girls can be seen boarding onto the cot while balancing themselves. They hold onto a rope attached to it and started pulling it to cross the river. No safety measures are taken by the girls.

School children cross the Parvati river instead of travelling several kilometres to reach the school. Not only children, but people from many villages depend on these cots to take sick patients and pregnant women to the hospital or to go to the market to buy household items.

Officials Reaction On The Issue

Crossing the Parvati river is a big challenge for children and villagers. But neither the administration nor other responsible officials have paid attention to it. SDM Nahar Singh said that villagers and children will be prohibited from crossing the river and the matter will be investigated.
