Social media often turns ordinary dates into something talkable — just ask 'Drishyam' fans who remember the film every October.

In the popular Bollywood thriller, Ajay Devgn’s character Vijay Salgaonkar famously fakes an alibi for his family by claiming they were on a trip on October 2, watched a movie, and ate pav bhaji — details he uses to mislead police in a murder investigation. That scene made October 2 unforgettable in internet meme culture.

But this June 2, the internet celebrated a different thing — not for crime-solving, but for survival.

Across platforms like X, users were buzzing with the phrase “Do June Ki Roti.”

At first glance, it might seem like another calendar-based meme. But this trend carries much more weight. The phrase doesn’t actually refer to a date. It's a reference to the poetic Hindi expression “Do waqt ki roti,” meaning “two meals a day," a symbolic way of talking about the daily struggle for food — a basic need that millions still fight for.

On June 2, netizens creatively turned this linguistic term into a social media trend. Users began posting photos featuring two simple chapatis on their plates.

X users expressed gratitude for being able to afford their meals. With thankful hearts, many shared images of their simple food, reflecting a deep sense of appreciation.

One user wrote while sharing a photo of two rotis, “Here, my friends, you must not have cooked it, I have made it, eat it. Everyone should get two meals a day (translated from Hindi).”

Another heartfelt post read, “A man keeps running throughout his life for his daily bread. Today is June 2nd, eat and feed others in peace (translated from Hindi)!”

"Do June Ki Roti", a quiet cry for basic survival, cleverly got woven into an internet trend.
