A man travelling from Goa to Chandigarh in an IndiGo flight accused the airline of scamming passengers after the weight of his luggage exceeded the estimated weight. Before boarding the flight, the passenger gets his luggage weighed at the airport at three different luggage counters, and all three showed different figures. The passenger took to social media to report the incident, and the post since then has since gone viral. IndiGo has responded to the viral tweet.

@ShivrattanDhil1 on X posted two pictures, one of his boarding pass and another of probably his family doing arrangements to lower the weights from the bags. He claims of paid ₹11,900 for extra baggage, including ₹1,500 just for carrying an umbrella. He wrote that he weighed his luggage bag at three different counters, first showing 18 KG, followed by 16 KG on the second. The third counter showed that the weight of the bag was 15 KG.

He further adds that the airline told him that 18 KG is the correct weight of the bag and asked him to pay the added amount. He also said that he re-verified and checked the weight of the bags at the hotel he stayed which reflected as 15 KG. He wrote, "This is nothing less than daylight robbery, and passengers are being ripped off without realizing it. IndiGo must be held accountable for this fraud."

IndiGo's social media handle responded to the viral tweet and denied the allegations. The response reads, "Mr. Dhillon, we tried reaching on the registered contact number but were unable to connect. We would like to reassure you that all baggage weighing scales are maintained, routinely calibrated and certified by the airport authorities to ensure accurate readings. As part of our due diligence, we also conducted an internal review in coordination with the airport team, and no discrepancies were found with the equipment used during your check-in. The total checked-in baggage for you and your co-travellers was 52 kg across three passengers. In accordance with our Conditions of Carriage, this exceeded the permissible limit by 7 kg, for which the applicable excess baggage charges were levied. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation. ~Team IndiGo"
