Himachal Pradesh: A man carried a leopard cub separated from its mother to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in his car in Himachal Pradesh's Theog. Although his gesture came from an intention to help the cub survive but his decision to carry it in his car is sparking safety concerns. An IFS officer has shed light on the incident and has spread awareness among netizens about things to do in such situations.
X user @iNikhilsaini posted on August 9 that one of his friends, identified as Ankush Chauhan, a resident of Kotkhai Tharola in Himachal Pradesh, found a cub of a leopard separated from its mother in the forest. He carried it to Theog DFO in his car and also recorded the video of the same.

@iNikhilsaini praised his friend, "Good to see humanity still alive, as such rare animals are often killed for their teeth and skin." However, another X user and IFC officer, @ParveenKaswan, reacted to the video with concerns about the safety of the man as well as the leopard cub.
The X user wrote, "It may look cute and well-intentioned. But not a good decision. Rescues should be a last resort. First, such cat species cubs should be secured wherever they are found. Secure and let mother come and take them. If multiple failures, then rescue as a last resort. This is what we do."
He further added, "Call forest dept people. We have many such cases documented in last few years. Never we pick animal from the location. Mother may have kept them there and will return back in night. First priority should be reuniting. A rescued small cub is very difficult to be raised without a mother."
