The bridge, built in 1986, was an important shortcut for people travelling between South Gujarat and Saurashtra. With its sudden collapse, people will now have to take a longer route via Vasad. There are reports that the longer route will add nearly 50 km to their journey. This will also likely lead to heavy traffic and congestion on the Vasad toll road.
Locals say the bridge was known for being old and unsafe. It had become a risky point over the years, even known as a spot for suicides. Built nearly 40 years ago by the UP State Bridge Construction Company, it was one of the key links connecting Central and South Gujarat with Saurashtra.
Now, many people from nearby villages who used this bridge daily for work, especially those from Anand and Padra, will face serious travel challenges. While an alternative route through Sindhrot has been opened, it adds another 16 km to their journey, as per reports from NDTV.
But beyond the statistics and road diversions, the real tragedy lies in the pain of families who lost their loved ones.
