Lucknow: A prolonged power outage in several Lucknow colonies triggered public outrage, with residents accusing the state power department of negligence and slow response. The disruption began Sunday evening when supply from Dubagga substation failed, plunging areas such as Akshra Colony, Awas Vikas, Dashahri Mod, Bharawan Mod, Jehata, and Siddheshwari into darkness for over two days.

Officials cited a technical fault in the 33 kV line, which took 31 hours to locate and fix. However, residents say repeated complaints went unanswered both at the local level and through the 1912 helpline, where they were told only that “work is in progress” before calls were disconnected.

The outage left around 50,000 people struggling without drinking water as pumps stopped working. Many families were forced to order food from outside when inverters failed. Locals accused the administration of failing to maintain infrastructure despite repeated incidents of outages during rain.

Tensions escalated Monday when around 500 residents gathered at Dubagga power house, shouting slogans and blocking roads until police intervened.

In Faizullaganj, where 170 streetlights have been out for 10 days, residents staged a candle march against the municipal corporation, citing complete inaction on repairs.
