Rajasthan Heatwave: Barmer Sees Hottest April In 27 Years

Earlier, on April 3rd, 1998, a temperature of 45.2 degree Celsius was recorded in Barmer. Barmer was hot not only during the day but at night as well, as the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.8 degree Celsius last night, which was 6.4 degrees above the average.

Jaipur: It is just mid of April and the desert state of Rajasthan has started boiling with maximum temperatures have reached above 40 degree Celsius in most parts of the state in the last two days.

For the past 48 hours, the mercury remained at 45.6 degrees Celsius in Barmer breaking the record of the last 27 years of maximum temperature in the first week of April. Earlier, on April 3rd, 1998, a temperature of 45.2 degree Celsius was recorded in Barmer. Barmer was hot not only during the day but at night as well, as the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.8 degree Celsius last night, which was 6.4 degrees above the average.

Besides Barmer, other cities of Rajasthan have also recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degree Celsius during on Monday as well. Jaisalmer, the adjoining district of Barmer remained at 45.4 degrees, while Jodhpur, Phalodi, Bikaner, Chittorgarh, Kota were recorded around 44 degree Celsius. Even the only hill station of the state, Mount Abu, touched 32 degrees, which was more than 2.3 degrees of the average temperature here.

The capital city of Jaipur reached 41.8 degrees on Monday, which is 5.5 degrees more than the average.

The early onset of heatwave conditions has badly affected the daily life in the state and patients of heat stroke have started flowing into the hospitals. The health department has advised the public to take precautions and stay hydrated considering the sudden increase in heat.

The Meteorological department has said that the heatwave conditions are likely to continue for two more days in the state. A western disturbance is likely to active from 10th of April which is expected to give some respite.
