Once a poster child of India’s fintech revolution, Paytm is now facing criticism from an employee who describes the company as one of the 'worst places to work'. A Reddit post has hailed serious accusations of delayed salaries, toxic work culture, unrealistic targets, and poor HR support. These raise serious concerns about the company's internal practices—particularly in its field and sales divisions.
A Paytm employee, who is a Field Sales Executives (FSEs), took to Reddit to allege a severely imbalanced work-life structure, where overtime and weekend shifts are the norm, not the exception. Daily targets reportedly dictate not just performance metrics, but whether an employee gets paid at all. The employee claims that even after meeting targets, salaries remain delayed or withheld.
Paytm has has multiple layoff rounds
“Paytm has had multiple layoff rounds in recent years, especially after its IPO and regulatory setbacks. Employees in tech, support, and sales teams have faced sudden terminations without proper notice," the user said on Reddit.
Ground-level staff are reportedly also given poor compensation and erratic reimbursement of travel and mobile expenses. While the company promotes itself as a tech-first innovator, the employee says many frontline roles are plagued by low fixed salaries and unreliable incentives.
Adding to the discontent, the employee describes the toxic work environment—rampant micromanagement, favoritism, and inadequate grievance redressal by HR. Many claim that the human resources team is unresponsive to complaints, contributing to low morale and growing attrition.
The issue of job insecurity has also loomed large over the company since its IPO. Paytm has reportedly conducted multiple layoff rounds in recent years, affecting employees across departments—tech, customer support, and sales—with little to no prior notice.
The most demotivating factor is the lack of career growth. Employees in junior and mid-level roles are reportedly offered limited learning opportunities.
The Paytm employee starkly puts it, "If you ever get job in Paytm just decline the offer. Paytm jobs are scam." Another user commented on the post also advising users to not apply for jobs at Paytm.
