Jacklyn Gise 'Jackie' Bezos, mother of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, died peacefully at her home in Miami on August 14, at the age of 78, following a prolonged battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Jackie had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2020, a progressive neurological condition. In a statement shared via her family’s foundation and on social media, Jeff Bezos expressed that she was surrounded by loved ones, her children, grandchildren, and husband, during her final moments.
In his tribute, Bezos reflected on her early journey into motherhood at age 17 and her unwavering devotion to family, "We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever." His wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, also paid her respects, writing, "We will miss her SO much. Love you."
Jackie is remembered not only for her dedication as a mother and grandmother but also for her philanthropic work. She co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation, supporting early childhood education and community programs, and was a key early supporter of Amazon. Alongside her husband, Mike Bezos, she provided foundational investment in the company’s early days.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Bezos; her three children, Jeff, Christina, and Mark; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
