Former Team India and now Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid hilariously stated that he will contact Rohit Sharma for tickets at the Wankhede Stadium, now that he has a stand named after him. Dravid agreed that it's a well-deserved achievement, given his contribution to Mumbai and Indian cricket.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) finally unveiled the Rohit Sharma stand at the iconic venue, making his entire family emotional. The 38-year-old has established himself as one of the best white-ball captains India has had, headlined by ushering India to T20 World Cup win last year, followed by Champions Trophy 2025 glory earlier this year.
In the video uploaded by the Mumbai Indians on X, the former Indian captain said he hopes to see more and more sixes in the Rohit Sharma stand at the venue. Dravid elaborated:
"Hey Rohit. Guess you hit so many sixes into those stands that they had to name one after you! But, congratulations. I’m sure as a young boy going into the iconic Wankhede Stadium — truly one of the great stadiums in the world — I’m sure you would have loved to have played there, I’m sure you would have wanted to have some great performances there, which you have done."
"I’m not sure you dreamt about having a stand named after you, but that it has come to that and that you have one named after you, it’s a just reward for your contribution to both Mumbai and Indian cricket. It’s truly well deserved — congratulations! I hope it was a great day with family and friends. Looking forward to seeing a lot more sixes into the Rohit Sharma Stand in all the games that you play. Rohit Sharma to turn out for Mumbai Indians as IPL 2025 set for resumption
Meanwhile, the veteran cricketer is gearing up to help Mumbai Indians usher to yet another title glory as IPL 2025 is all set for resume on May 17, Saturday. Although Rohit struggled in the first six matches with a best of 26, he struck back-to-back half-centuries against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and SunRisers Hyderabad. He also hit one against the Rajasthan Royals.
As for the Mumbai Indians, their qualification hopes remain in their hands, having won seven out of 12 matches. However, with Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants also in contention to reach the playoff, Mumbai must win their remaining games.
