Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has praised Rishabh Pant for his brilliant century during the 1st Test against England at Headingley. Gavaskar, who once harshly criticized Pant’s risky shot selection, has now called his innings “superb, superb, superb.”
Earlier this year, Gavaskar had slammed Pant during the Australia series for playing a reckless scoop shot, calling it “stupid, stupid, stupid.” But after watching Pant bat with focus and maturity at Headingley, Gavaskar was full of praise.
Gavaskar’s change in tone shows just how much Pant has improved. From being seen as careless, Pant is now proving he can play big, important knocks in Test matches. His hundred wasn’t just about runs, it was a message that he’s grown as a player.
