Drew McIntyre, one of WWE's most formidable superstars, had a rare moment of breaking character when he met Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon. McIntyre, currently embroiled in a heated feud with Damian Priest on the Road to WrestleMania 41, found a moment of lightheartedness before this week’s SmackDown in Bologna, Italy.
The two-time world champion, alongside Chelsea Green, interacted with Buffon, who presented them with Italian National Football Team jerseys. iIn return Gigi was given a WrestleMania 41 t-shirt as a token.
McIntyre’s jersey had the number 3, a tribute to Italian football icon Paolo Maldini, which McIntyre was visibly pleased with. In a fun exchange, Buffon playfully teased McIntyre by pretending to rip off his suit, much like WWE superstars do in the ring. McIntyre shared the moment on social media, captioning it, “Scottish Psychopath🤝 Italian Superman. Gigi saw the rig and swooned."

McIntyre’s frustration with his WrestleMania 41 booking is clear. In a candid interview with Adam's Apple, McIntyre expressed his dissatisfaction at not being part of a world title match at the event. He voiced his anger over how his rivalry with CM Punk in 2024 drew significant attention, yet he finds himself sidelined from the main event.
Despite his frustration, McIntyre vowed to make his match with Priest "f**king awesome," promising that he would make sure fans would be invested in the story and deliver a spectacular performance at WrestleMania.
The WrestleMania 41 is a two-night event, will take place on April 19th and 20th, 2025 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. The two night event will feature a match between Cody Rhodes and John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
