Ravichandran Ashwin had established himself as one of India's greatest match-winners, particularly in Test cricket. Over a distinguished career, he played more than 100 Test matches and took over 500 wickets, becoming one of the fastest bowlers to reach that landmark. Ashwin’s bowling had been a crucial factor in India's dominance at home, and he had also delivered vital performances overseas.
