Fans in Assam strongly claimed that they have come to the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati only for Indian singer and composer Zubeen Garg, who passed away recently due to an accident. A video of the same has surfaced on social media as fans were seen yelling 'Jai Zubeen da' outside the stadium ahead of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 opener between India and Sri Lanka.
The 52-year-old singer and composer died in Singapore while swimming in the sea without life jacket. According to reports, CPR was performed and was rushed to the Singapore General Hospital but he couldn't be resuscitated. Although the Singapore authorities cited the cause of death as drowning, but a special Investigation Team (SIT) has been appointed to scrutinize the matter following public demand.

Sri Lanka had won the toss and opted to bowl first
Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu has won the toss in the Women's World Cup 2025 opener against hosts India at the Baraspara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati and opted to bowl first, citing the dew factor. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said she also wanted to bowl first but is looking at it as a good opportunity to pile on the runs.
