Young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has added a feather to his cap while completing his maiden Test double century on Day 2 of the second Test against England at at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, January 3.

Jaiswal made it to history book of cricket records by becoming the second youngest Indian batter after Vinod Kambli to score a double century on home soil. Overall, the 22-year-old is the third youngest batter after Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar to achieve this milestone for India in the history of Test Cricket.

Additionally, Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved the feat of becoming the second Indian double centurion across all formats in international cricket at home.

The young batter was batting on 191 when he hit a six off Shoaib Bashir's delivery in the 102nd over of India's first innings. In the next ball, he swept it away to the boundary line to record his first double century in the 10th innings of his Test career.

On Day 1 of the Vizag Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal played an unbeaten innings of 179 off 257 balls, which helped India to post a total of 336/6 in 93 overs at stumps. He was waging lone battle at the crease as other fellow batters were struggling to score 35 in the first innings.

Jaiswal finally realized his dream of achieving Test double century after missed out on it in his debut Test against West Indies last year, where he scored 171 in the first innings.

India bundle out for 396 after Yashasvi Jaiswal's double century

India resumed their innings at 336/6, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin batting on 179 and 1, respectively. Jaiswal and Ashwin steadied hosts' batting in the first hour of the first session with 34-run partnership until latter was dismissed for 20 by James Anderson at 364/7.

Thereafter, Jaiswal takes charge of India's batting as Kuldeep Yadav was playing as second fiddle to ensure that the former completes his double century. Jaiswal raced to his maiden double ton with six and four and was pumped up during celebration.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal's marathon innings came to an end after he was dismissed by James Anderson for 209 at 383/8. Then, India lost final two wickets in Jasprit Bumrah (6) and Mukesh Kumar (0) in 12 runs. Eventually, India were bowled our for 396 in the first innings.

For England, veteran pacer James Anderson and young spinners in Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir picked three wickets. Their bowling refrained India were reaching 400-run mark in the first innings.
