Anshul Kamboj became India's player no 318 in the Test matches after being handed his maiden cap at Old Trafford stadium in Manchester by Deep Dasgupta. He is the 318th player to play in white jersey for India.
The pacer who did not find a place in the original squad was drafted into the final 11 due to injury issues to the key bowlers. Kamboj replaces Akash Deep in the playing 11 after he suffered an injury during the Lord's Test. Arshdeep Singh also suffered an injury during practic,e which ruled him out of the match.
Who Is Anshul Kamboj?
Kamboj was born in the town of Karnal in Haryana and is a right-hander pacer as well as a right-handed batter. He has previously also represented the Indian U-19 team in two Youth Test matches against South Africa in 2019.
Kamboj was a part of the India A setup which played two three-day games last month. He took five wickets in the two games. He came into the limelight during the 2023–24 Vijay Hazare Trophy, India's premier 50-over domestic competition. The pacer 17 wickets in 10 matches. The 24-year-old also got his name registered in Ranji Trophy history last year by becoming the first bowler in 39 years to claim all 10 wickets in an innings. The pacer achieved the feat in the match between Haryana and Kerala at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli.
His domestic performance did not go unnoticed as he was picked up for the Indian Premier League. Following his brilliant performance, Anshul became part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp in the 2023 IPL season. However Mumbai Indians (MI) bought him for ₹20 lakhs in the 2024 auction. The right-arm seamer played three matches in IPL 2024 and took two wickets. He made his debut on May 6th against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In IPL 2025, the Haryana seamer was part of the Chennai Super Kings. After warming the bench in the early part of the season, he picked up eight wickets in as many games with an economy rate of 8.00.
