Team India Test skipper Shubman Gill has hit a purple patch in the ongoing Test series against England. Gill has scored 585 runs in just the first two matches and is closing in on some legendary records including those held by Don Bradman

Shubman Gill in line to Break Don Bradman's record

Most Runs in a Test Series as Captain

In the 1936-37 Ashes series, Bradman scored 810 runs as captain a record that still stands. Since Gill already has 585 runs, he needs just 226 more to break it. Remarkably, this is also Gill's first series as captain, just like it was Bradman’s.

Most Runs in a Test Series (Overall)

Bradman also holds the record for the most runs in a single Test series — 974 runs during the 1930 Ashes in England. Gill is currently 390 runs short, but with his current form and three games remaining, even this record is within reach. What makes it even more exciting is that Gill’s start to the series has been better than Bradman’s. While Bradman had 394 runs after two Tests in 1930, while Gill already has 585.

Fastest to 1000 Test Runs as Captain

Bradman also holds the record for the fastest to 1000 Test runs as captain, reaching the mark in just 11 innings. Gill has an outside shot at this milestone, requiring 415 runs in his next six innings.

India look to take lead at Lords

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is finely poised at 1-1 as India and England prepare to face off in the third Test at Lord’s. With both teams winning one game each, this match could play a crucial role in deciding the direction of the five-Test series.

England had drawn first blood in the opener, successfully chasing a target of over 370 and winning by five wickets. However, India hit back in emphatic fashion in the second Test at Edgbaston. Despite resting their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, India dominated thanks to an outstanding performance from captain Shubman Gill, who scored a combined 430 runs across both innings.

India’s bowlers also stepped up, with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj sharing 17 wickets between them.

As the action shifts to Lord’s, the pitch is expected to offer something different from the batting-friendly surfaces seen in the first two matches. The England team has reportedly asked for a surface with more pace and bounce, hoping it will suit their fast bowlers.

England have already revealed their playing XI for the third Test, making one change Jofra Archer returns to the side after a long gap, replacing Josh Tongue. This marks Archer’s first Test appearance in four years.

India, on the other hand, will welcome back Jasprit Bumrah to the playing XI. While the team management hasn’t confirmed the final lineup yet, it's likely that Prasidh Krishna will make way for the returning fast bowler.

With both teams eager to take the lead in the series and conditions likely to favor the quicks, the stage is perfectly set for a thrilling Test at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
