Rohit Sharma's place in the Indian Test team has come under question following the disastrous Border Gavaskar series. Not only did India lose series 1-3 but the Hitman had poor outing with the bat scoring 31 runs in five games without winning a single Test. Following the tour, there are many talks about his retirement from the game's longest format.
Former Australia wicketkeeper and Rohit's former IPL skipper at Deccan Chargers Adam Gichrist believes that Team India skipper will retire from Test' He even hinted that Rohit might completely retire from international cricket after the ICC Champions Trophy.
Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Gilchrist said, "I don't see Rohit going to England. I just felt that he says he will assess it when he gets home. I mean, the first thing he will be met with when he gets home is a two-month-old baby that he has to change the nappies on. Now that might incentivise him to go to England. But I don't see him pressing on. I think he'll probably have a crack at the Champions Trophy and that might be. That might see him out,"
Gilchrist Backs Virat Kohli for Test captaincy
Gilchrist backed Virat Kohli to be at the helm if Rohit decides to move away from Test cricket. He also state that Bumrah might find it little challenging to manage Test team on full time basis.
He added, "I don't know whether (Jasprit) Bumrah should be full-time captain. I reckon that might get a little bit challenging for him. So, who that next captain may be is anyone's guess, really, whether they go back to Virat (Kohli). I wouldn't be surprised if he wouldn't mind doing it,"
India tour of England schedule
India is all set to tour England for a five-match Test series beginning on June 20th in Headingley as the tourists target their first series win on English soil since 2007. India and England have had quite a rivalry over the last few years. India had come close in 2022 to register a series win, but the scoreline stood 2-2 at the end of it.
