Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star MS Dhoni has filed a trademark for his iconic nickname of 'captain cool' after the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports, the keeper-batter filed a trademark on June 5, 2023 in Jharkhand as the picture of the application information surfaced on social media.
The 43-year-old earned the moniker of 'Captain Cool' due to his ability to remain calm during some of the most tense situations in the match. Having captained the national team across formats, he established his dominance as the leader, especially in the white-ball formats. He is the only captain to win all three white-ball titles - T20 World Cup, 50-over World Cup and the Champions Trophy. Furthermore, he lifted Team India to No.1 in 2009 following the landmark series win in New Zealand and the team stayed at the top for more than a year.
He continues to play in the IPL for the Super Kings. Under him, the franchise has lifted the coveted IPL trophy on five occasions. Nevertheless, CSK made an unwanted record this year of finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in history.

Following CSK's final match of the season, Dhoni said he has 4-5 months to decide and that cricketers can't retire based solely on their performances. The veteran said he will take his time to decide his IPL future and said in the post-game presentation:
"I have 4-5 months to decide, there's no hurry to decide what needs to be done. Every year it's 15% more effort to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best, this is top level cricket. It's professional cricket. It's not always performance you can count. If cricketers start retiring because of their performances, some of them will retire at the age of 22. What is important to see is how much hunger you have and how fit you are. How much you can contribute for the team. Whether the team needs you or doesn’t, so I have enough time
