Real Madrid's star footballer Kylian Mbappe has been hospitalized due to gastroenteritis as the Spanish Club revealed on Thursday, confirming that it's an acute case. The French footballer had already missed Real Madrid's opening game of the Club World Cup Saudi Arabian team Al Hilal in Miami due to fever.
Coach Xabi Alonso had stated that he hoped to have the France international player to be fit for the fixture against Pachuca on Sunday. However, the 26-year-old forward's hospitalisation has cast a massive doubt over his availability for not only the next match but for the entire tournament.
The club further stated that Mbappe would have to undergo a series of tests to determine his next course of treatment. With Mbappe known to be one of the best players going around, his absence would arguably be a blow for the tournament.
Kylian Mbappe has netted 43 goals in 56 matches for Real Madrid
It was in 2024 that Mbappe had joined Real Madrid after joining on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain (PSG). It is also the decorated team's first competition under the newly-appointed coach Xabi Alonso, who had replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the managerial position after the La Liga season.
It was also in the very first year for Mbappe that Real Madrid had won high-profile competitions like Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Intercontinental Cup.
