The opening match of The Hundred 2025 between the London Spirit and Oval Invincibles had an unexpected interruption when a fox made its way onto the field at Lord’s on Tuesday, August 6. The surprising visitor appeared just as Spirit bowler Daniel Worrall was preparing to deliver a ball during the Invincibles’ run chase.
Commentators Eoin Morgan and Stuart Broad couldn't hide their amusement at the scene, joking about how the uninvited animal might be persuaded to leave without causing disruption.
Oval Invicibles make winning start
Defending champions Oval Invincibles got their campaign off to a strong start with a dominant win over London Spirit. After winning the toss, Spirit skipper Kane Williamson chose to bat first though the decision quickly backfired. Early wickets from Keaton Jennings and David Warner put the side under pressure, followed by the dismissal of Williamson himself.
Rashid Khan and Sam Curran then dominated proceedings. The Afghan spin maestro showed his class, with stunning figures of 3 for 11 in 20 balls, exploiting the spin-friendly surface. England’s dependable all-rounder Curran also got his name in wicket list with 3 wickets and conceding only 18 runs, which broke the backbone of the Spirit’s batting line-up.
In response, Oval Invincibles managed their chase steadily. Although Spirit picked up a few wickets along the way, the chase never really derailed. Jordan Cox and Sam Curran contributed briefly, but it was Sam Billings and Donovan Ferreira who held their nerve to see the team home. The Invincibles chased down the target in just 69 balls, sealing a comprehensive six-wicket victory
Looking ahead, the Invincibles will face the Manchester Originals at The Oval on Saturday, August 9, while the London Spirit will travel to Cardiff to take on the Welsh Fire on the same day.
