Sweden’s Armand “Mondo” Duplantis shattered the pole vault world record for an incredible 12th time on Sunday, clearing 6.28 metres at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm.

Duplantis was flawless throughout the competition, clearing four successive heights up to six metres on his first attempts before successfully conquering 6.28m, surpassing his own previous world mark of 6.27m set in February at Clermont-Ferrand by a single centimetre.

His record-breaking jump sent the home crowd into raptures, as Duplantis ripped off his shirt in jubilation, celebrating with his partner and family. It was also his first world record set on Swedish soil.

Who is Armand Duplantis?

Duplantis was named the Laureus Sportsman of the Year becoming only the second track and field athlete to receive the honour following a dominant 2024 season.

Sunday’s win also marked his 37th victory in 41 Diamond League appearances, with Australia’s Kurtis Marschall finishing second with a best of 5.90m. He first broke the world record in 2020 when he surpassed the 6.16m mark set by Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie.

What's next for Duplantis?

The 25-year-old revealed that Bolt had promised to party with him if he broke the record, adding an extra spark to a historic evening at the 1912 Olympic Stadium. Speaking to Swedish broadcaster SVT, Duplantis said,"For me it’s pretty cool, actually. He said if I break the world record we can party tonight, so I’m sure it’s going to be a fun night with him, but I’m just so happy,"

Bolt was present for Thursday’s Diamond League event in Oslo before the legend took a train to Stockholm where he set out to try the nightlife. The 100m and 200m sprint record champion was joined on Sunday night by Duplantis and his family members
