Another glaring example of poor road maintenance by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come to light after a truck got stuck in a pothole at Badhaai Chowk, Kothrud. The incident, which occurred on a busy road, has sparked widespread outrage among citizens and once again brought PMC’s road repair work under scrutiny.
Due to what appears to be substandard or delayed repairs, the road caved in, trapping a truck and causing a major traffic jam in the area. Videos of the incident, captured by local residents, quickly went viral on social media. In the footage, the truck is visibly stuck in the middle of the road, with a long line of vehicles stalled behind it—highlighting the chaos caused by the collapse.
Local leaders have slammed the municipal administration for its alleged negligence. Youth Congress Kothrud Assembly President Raj Govind Jadhav shared the viral video, criticizing PMC for failing to address basic infrastructure issues.
“The leaders who talk about a ‘developed Kothrud’ ignore the day-to-day struggles of citizens. Bad roads and traffic are making life miserable. Why is the corporation collecting taxes if they can’t maintain the roads?” Jadhav questioned.
He even asked whether PMC is making arragement for underground parking in a satirical tone.
Pune roads
This is not an isolated case. In the past, even PMC vehicles have reportedly fallen victim to the city’s pothole-ridden roads. Despite repeated incidents and public complaints, residents claim the civic body continues to show a sluggish approach toward road maintenance.
Citizens are now demanding urgent and permanent solutions to the deteriorating road conditions before more accidents occur.
Recently, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has staged a unique protest to draw the attention of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) towards the deteriorating road conditions in Ward No. 18, which has also sparked public outrage.
To draw the attention of PMC officials, the MNS workers decorated the potholes with rangoli, garlands and even placed a potted plant in one.
