Ganesh Vilas Mane (26), a soldier of the Indian Army from Varkute in Man Taluka of Satara district, killed himself by hanging himself while he was on leave in his village. His marriage was recently fixed, and the wedding events were to be held in a few days. Everyone is shocked that he took this extreme step.
Soldier Ganesh Mane had joined the army three years ago. He was on duty in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was a person who interacted well with everyone in the village and actively participated in the village’s cultural and social activities. His death is being widely mourned. He is survived by his mother, father, cousins, brothers, sisters-in-law, and nephews.
This incident comes days after the body of a young woman who had killed herself by jumping into the Krishna River from a bridge in Karad was found in the riverbed within the limits of Gondi village after seven days. The woman’s name is Kalpana Balappa Waghmare (age 26), a resident of Wakhan Road, Karad, and a native of Jat in Sangli district.
Kalpana had jumped into the Krishna river basin around 9:30 pm on July 28. Even she was recently engaged. On that night, she had come to the bridge on a two-wheeler, parked her vehicle there, and was talking on her mobile phone. Shortly after, she jumped into the river. The police reached the spot, checked her bag, and identified her. NDRF personnel and fishermen searched the riverbed for her over the past seven days, but her body was not initially found.

However, on Sunday morning, the body of a young woman was found floating in the river within the limits of Gondi village. Upon informing the authorities, the Karad Rural Police visited the scene and conducted a panchnama. It was confirmed that the body was that of Kalpana. Her relatives were informed, and a report was filed at the Karad City Police Station. The police are continuing their investigation.
