Pune received heavy rainfall on Tuesday, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic snarls across nearly every part of the city. Commuters were left stranded for hours, with major roads like those in Hinjawadi, Sinhagad Road, and Warje reporting gridlocks.
The newly-opened Sinhagad Road Flyover also saw massive traffic congestion, while reports of road cave-ins came in from Warje and Satara Road.

Rain Alert For Today
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Pune for the next 48 hours on May 20 and May 21, warning of intense rain spells accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The information was shared by Anupam Kashyapi, Former Head of Weather Forecasting at IMD Pune, also extends to the ghat regions of Pune and Satara, where isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the next 4–5 days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh alerts for several regions in Maharashtra as monsoon-like conditions continue to impact the state.
A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai and the Konkan region, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next four days. Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Pune, Raigad, and Nashik, warning of the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and exercise caution, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
Vineet Kumar, who regularly provides updates on Pune weather, mentioned that thunderstorms are expected today but are likely to be less severe than yesterday. In a reply to a user on X (formerly Twitter), he added that no rain is expected at least until 3 PM, with a possibility of thunderstorms developing afterward.
Vineet Kumar shared that the IMD has predicted thunderstorms and rain for Pune today, but with less intensity than yesterday. He mentioned that no rain is expected until at least 2:30 PM, after which thunderstorms are possible. The rain coverage and amount are likely to be lower than yesterday.
For Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, Wakad, and Hinjewadi, the IMD predicts thunderstorms later in the day, with no rain expected before 2:30 PM. Thunderstorms are expected to be less severe compared to yesterday.
In the Deccan area, IMD forecasts thunderstorms, with some rain expected in the evening, but again, less intense than the previous day.

Shivajinagar in Pune recorded 40.8 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, marking the highest 24-hour rainfall for the month of May in the city since 2015.
So far, Shivajinagar has received 106.8 mm of rainfall this month, making it the wettest May in nearly a decade — and the month still has 10 days to go.
