Pune River Revival, a citizens' movement to revive and rejuvenate rivers, has been honored with the "Social Gratitude Award" for its ongoing efforts in river rejuvenation.
The group, after receiving the award, stated that they are grateful for the recognition and extend their heartfelt congratulations to all the workers and supporters who have been part of this journey. They emphasized that this achievement belongs to everyone involved in the Pune River Revival movement.
With the current Pune Riverfront project moving away from this objective, sensitive citizens and many concerned organizations have come together and formed this campaign called ‘Pune River Revival.’
The group has been at the forefront in opposing the RFD in Pune. They have been marching to stop the project, claiming that it will destroy the environment and ecosystem.
Recently, in Pimpri-Chinchwad, a solidarity walk was held on Sunday, April 27, at 8 a.m., starting from Shaheed Ashok Kamthe Garden in Pimple Nilakh. The event was organized by Nisarg Sevak in collaboration with the Pune River Revival movement to raise awareness about the ecological restoration of the Mula River.
This walk followed the "Mula Nadi Parikrama – Riparian Tree Mapping" campaign, which was held on Saturday. It included activities like documenting tree species along the river and encouraging citizens to participate in protecting river ecosystems. The aim is to shift the focus from concrete riverfront development to science-based, natural rejuvenation methods.
The event featured expert talks on river ecology, personal stories by citizens and activists, and cultural performances such as river-themed songs and poetry. There were also discussions on alternative approaches to urban development that prioritize sustainability.
