The Pune Police have arrested the Undri hit-and-run accused within 10 hours of the accident, officials said on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Sameer Ganesh Kad (32), a resident of Gangotri Complex in Undri, they added.
According to the police, a 49-year-old man, Sujit Kumar Singh, a resident of Vidya Niketan Society in Undri, was out for a morning walk on Tuesday when he met with an accident near Nyati Ebony Society and succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred around 6:40am. It left Singh critically injured with severe head trauma. He was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) but was declared dead on arrival.

As soon as the police got the information, they launched an investigation for the accused with the help of the CCTV cameras of the nearby societies. It came to the fore that the accused drove a grey-coloured Tata Nexon. The police immediately contacted the RTO and got a list of the grey Tata Nexons registered in the last two months. The list had 2,500 such vehicles. Then the police scanned the CCTV footage of Undri, Mohammadwadi and Handewadi areas and got the number of the vehicle of the accused. They found out that the accused tried to hide his car at a secluded place in Autadwadi by removing the number plates.
Meanwhile, the police arrested Kad and an FIR was lodged against him under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Further investigation is underway.
