As per the prediction by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune experienced a thunderstorm that brought severe thunder, strong winds, and lightning, disrupting normal life on Tuesday. Many parts of the city like Sinhagad Road, Hinjawadi, Wakad, Balewadi faced power outages as falling trees damaged Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) connections.

The IMD had also issued an orange alert for the city and mentioned that this trend will continue for seven days.

Commuters, including office workers and college students, found themselves stranded due to the sudden downpour while they were on their way home.

Even after the regular issues caused by the rain, Punekars expressed happiness over the respite from the rising temperatures in the city.

Lately, the temperatures in the city were rising and touching 40 degrees Celsius. Areas like Koregaon Park, Lohegaon, Shirur, and Chinchwad have seen temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius multiple times.

The IMD, in its nowcast warning, stated, "Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and light spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Kolhapur and Sangli during the next 3-4 hours. Take precautions while moving out."

Meanwhile, with clear sky, the national capital on Tuesday recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, 0.5 notch above normal, the India Meteorological Department said.

The minimum temperature in the capital was recorded at 14.6 degrees Celsius, 4.2 notches above normal, the MeT office said. The humidity levels fluctuated between 40 per cent and 20 per cent during the day, the IMD said.
