The incomplete section of the flyover connecting Wadgaon to Rajaram Bridge on Sinhagad Road is causing daily inconvenience to commuters. The poor condition of the road, worsened by ongoing rainfall, is slowing down traffic and leading to frequent congestion during peak hours.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed work on its 2.2 km-long lane on one side, while the work on the opposite side lane of 1.54 km from Indian Hume Pipe to Inamdar Chowk was supposed to be completed in June earlier.
Originally scheduled to open in June, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was aiming to finish the project by the end of July. According to civic officials, persistent rain has disrupted key construction activities, particularly tarring and ramp work, resulting in delays. However, even after the July end, the work remains undone.
Sinhagad road flyovers
The construction of the flyover was taken up to reduce traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road. In this, the work on the flyovers in two phases—Rajaram Bridge Chowk and Vitthalwadi Kaman to Funtime Theater—was completed. Both these bridges were inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on January 26, 2025, and May 1, 2025, respectively.
Frustrated commuters, however, criticised the PMC for not completing the flyover before the onset of the monsoon season.
The road, since the last few days, has been seeing huge traffic snarls, troubling Sinhagad Road residents.
Residents and commuters continue to face heavy traffic congestion, especially during peak hours, despite the inauguration of two new flyovers on Sinhagad Road. Commuters are frustrated and dissatisfied with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune traffic police for poor planning and mismanagement.
The Municipal Administration had announced that the inauguration of the 1.5-kilometer-long flyover between Manikbaug and Hingne in the third phase would be held on June 15. Its work had also started at a fast pace. But it has been raining continuously since May. Due to this, the work of constructing the ramp of the flyover was stopped for a few days. The mud on this ramp turned into slush, so they had to wait for it to dry before doing the next work. Also, the asphalting on the flyover could not be done due to rain. There was good rain in June too. Due to this, the pace of work has slowed down. This work was expected to be completed by the end of July.
