Why do dogs get heart attack?

Dogs can suffer heart attacks, although it's rare compared to humans. When it happens, it's usually due to underlying health conditions such as heart disease (like cardiomyopathy or valve disorders), blood clots, congenital defects, or genetic predispositions—especially in breeds like Dobermans, Boxers, and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Other triggers include toxins, certain medications, severe stress, or trauma. Unlike in humans, lifestyle factors like diet and exercise are less often the cause. Symptoms of a possible heart issue may include sudden collapse, weakness, breathing difficulty, or irregular heartbeat. Regular vet checkups are important for early detection and prevention.
