The Nashik Municipal Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) to launch the ‘Healthy Streets’ project to ease the traffic congestion in Nashik. The agreement will help improve the design and management of roads, public transport and lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.
The agreement was signed by Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri and ITDP Managing Director Aswathy Dilip. Through this partnership, ITDP will help the city by providing technical assistance, capacity building and policy support in transportation. This will enable the transformation of roads, strengthening public transport and improving city planning.
Key Objectives and Policies
Under this initiative, public bus services will be improved, and modern transport policies such as e-mobility, low-emission zones, multi-modal integration and transit-oriented development will be formulated.
For this, training, workshops and study tours will be organised in partnership with leading institutions in the country and abroad. This will ensure public awareness, information exchange and participation among citizens.
‘Active Mobility’ Policy Coming Soon
An 'Active Mobility Policy' is being prepared to guide technical assistance on parking management and road design has been started in the initial phase. For this, active participation of citizens, as well as coordination with institutions such as traffic police and regional transport offices, is being done. The citizen’s opinion will be known through online and offline surveys in the city.

Manisha Khatri, Commissioner, Nashik Municipal Corporation, said, “Nashik's rapid growth requires that roads and transport systems be properly designed for all, especially the most vulnerable commuters. This partnership will help us adopt best practices.”
Aswathy Dilip, Managing Director, ITDP, said, “Nashik is currently at a crucial juncture in its transport journey. Through this MoU, we will bring about long-lasting, inclusive and sustainable changes, which will improve the quality of life in Nashik, reduce pollution and make Nashik a role model for other cities.”
