Nashik: Mahavitaran has started a new chapter for domestic electricity consumers in the state through smart TOD (Time of Day) meters. Accordingly, it has been announced to give a discount of 80 paise to 1 rupee per unit in the rate of electricity used during the day. The benefit of this scheme has started from July 1, and these smart TOD meters are being installed free of cost by Mahavitaran for consumers.

With this new technology, monthly readings will be automatic, so accurate bills will be received. Also, the electricity consumption of the house will be visible on their mobile phones every half hour. This will make it easier to directly control electricity consumption. Generally, domestic consumers use washing machines, geysers, ACs, and other appliances more between 9am and 5pm. TOD meters will benefit consumers a lot during this time.

Discount to increase in phases

According to the Time of Day (TOD) method, electricity rates are charged according to the time of consumption. After industrial consumers, now for the first time, cheaper electricity rates have been started for domestic consumers under TOD. Mahavitaran had submitted a proposal to the Commission for cheaper electricity rates for domestic consumers under TOD for the five years from 2025 to 2030. Accordingly, the Commission has approved a discount of 80 paise to 1 rupee per unit in the electricity rate used between 9am and 5pm.

July 1, 2025 to March 2026: 80 paise discount per unit

2027: 85 paise discount

2028 and 2029: 90 paise discount

2030: 1 rupee discount

To avail of this discount, domestic consumers must have a TOD meter.

Billing complaints will end

The smart TOD meter will automatically read the monthly electricity. Since there is no human intervention, billing complaints will almost end. Also, all the information about how much electricity is used in the house will be available on the mobile app of the concerned customer. This will make it possible to plan electricity consumption properly. Along with this, keeping a record of the electricity used and remaining in the rooftop solar power project is also a big advantage of this smart TOD meter.
