In a major twist in Pune's Kondhwa rape case, Pune Police confirmed that the accused was known to the victim and that the photo he took was taken with consent. He also works as an IT professional, and no chemical spray was used by him.
The duo met last year at a family function.
Two days after an unidentified man allegedly raped a 22-year-old IT professional after entering her flat in Pune city by posing as a courier delivery person, police on Friday said they had detained a suspect.
The police also stated that the photos were edited by the victim.
Pune CP Amitesh Kumar, in a press conference, shared the details of the case.
Kumar said that the matter of rape is under the investigation.
"It's clear, at 7.27 pm, the accused was entering the society, and he left around 8.20 pm. They had communicated on the day of the incident. However, as per the preliminary examination/interrogation, the selfie was clicked with consent, and no chemical was sprayed on the victim. According to the technical analysis, the photo was edited after the accused's departure, as per the timeline," he added.
He further said, "Police have also recovered the raw and deleted footage from the victim's mobile. They are investigating the conversation, including who called first. In the society, police interrogated all inmates of 44 flats. After analyzing 500 CCTV cameras, we detained the accused from Baner. Around 200 crime branch and 300 zonal police officers were deployed in search of the accused."
Furthermore, the matter is under investigation.
