In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken a series of measures against Pakistan, including suspending visas of Pakistani nationals with immediate effect.

"All existing valid visas issued by India to Pakistani nationals stand revoked with effect from April 27, 2025. Medical visas issued to Pakistani nationals will be valid only till April 29, 2025. All Pakistani nationals currently in India must leave India before the expiry of visas, as now amended," stated a press release issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday.

Additionally, in an address at a rally in Bihar's Madhubani, PM Modi vowed to punish the terrorists behind the attack and said India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism. "Friends, today from the soil of Bihar, I say to the whole world — India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers," he said. "We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism. Terrorism will not go unpunished," he added. "Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders who have stood with us in these times," the PM further said.

How many Pakistani nationals reside in Pune?

According to a report in TOI, there are 111 Pakistani nationals residing in Pune. 91 of them are on long-term visas for five years, while the rest are on short-term visas for 90 days. Of the Pakistani nationals in Pune, 35 men and 56 women are on long-term visas, and 20 are on visitor visas. An official from the Foreigners' Registration Office (FRO) told the English daily that three of them have already left India.

The official said that any foreign national entering India must register with the nearest police commissionerate or SP office in the city. If they travel to another city, that too must be reported, he added. "Police periodically verify whether foreign nationals are residing at the registered address and whether they are engaging in any activities beyond their stated purpose of visit," the report quoted the official as saying.
