The rainy season started this year around two and a half months ago. People had been waiting for satisfactory rain since then. The small and medium dams in the district contained only a small quantity of water. Heavy rainfall was witnessed in the district from August 15. According to the district disaster management department, on Saturday, Varud Kazi received 72.5 mm rainfall, Pisadevi 72.5 mm, and Chauka 100.8 mm. In Ladsawangi circle, 71.3 mm rainfall was recorded. In Gangapur taluka, Turkabad received 74 mm and Shendurwada 65.3 mm. Dongaon circle received 91.8 mm, Loni circle 117.3 mm, Garaj 126.5 mm, and Majalgaon 59.3 mm. In Kannad taluka, Devgaon received 86.5 mm rainfall.

The district received heavy rainfall in most areas. In some areas, there was cloudburst-like rainfall. Fortunately, no casualties were reported due to heavy rain and flood-like situations in the district. The bridges on most of the rivers were submerged under water. The Lasur, Ganori, and Phulambri bridges were affected.

On August 15, Harsul Sawangi, Chauka, Kolthan, Palshi, Varud Kazi, and Pisadevi areas received cloudburst-like rainfall. As a result, the Sukhna River, nullahs, and streams in this area were flooded, and the river water entered the residential localities of Naregaon on the bank of the river. In all, 21 localities were affected, and water entered around 500 houses and shops.

People have encroached on the banks of the Sukhna River in large numbers. Similarly, there is a garbage depot in Naregaon. The water flow of the Sukhna River is blocked due to the garbage and thermocol. Hence, the water entered the nearby localities. Around 500 houses and shops in 21 residential localities in Naregaon were waterlogged, fire brigade sources said.
