Pune: Baba Bhide Bridge in Pune's Central Area will be opened during Ganeshotsav, Maha Metro officials have announced. The bridge, used by two-wheelers, always proves to be a key link during Ganeshotsav when many roads are closed in Pune's central Peth areas.
Maha Metro has decided that the bridge will be opened for 20 days from August 20. The bridge connects Sadashiv Peth to the Deccan and Shivajinagar areas. Maha Metro had closed the bridge for traffic as they wanted to build a pedestrian bridge connecting the Peth areas to the Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station.
The bridge was first scheduled to be closed until June 6, but the work on the pedestrian bridge was not completed. Then the timing was extended until Friday, but still, the work did not finish. Maha Metro has now asked for another extension.

From August 27, Ganeshotsav will begin in the city. Ganesh Mandals had demanded that the administration open this bridge, considering the traffic congestion the central areas experience every year during the festival. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram held a meeting with Maha Metro officials, and now, Maha Metro will reopen the Bhide Bridge for three weeks.
