In a bid to tackle the rising cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), Jalgaon District Collector Ayush Prasad has instructed officials to reserve 20% of ICU beds in hospitals for GBS patients. The directive was issued during a preparatory meeting chaired by Prasad at the District Collector’s Office.

The meeting, attended by health officials and district-level officers, focused on creating awareness, ensuring a clean water supply, and preventing panic among citizens. Prasad emphasised the need for house-to-house water testing, cleanliness campaigns, and disinfection drives by municipalities and gram panchayats. He also urged citizens to boil drinking water and take steps to boost immunity.

District Health Officer Dr Sachin Bhayekar, along with Dr Paraji Bachevar and Dr Abhijit Pillay from Government Medical College, Jalgaon, provided detailed information on GBS symptoms and treatment. The Health Department was instructed to prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs), organise training sessions, and conduct laboratory tests for suspected patients.

The Public Relations Department was tasked with curbing rumours and launching awareness campaigns, while the Disaster Management Department was directed to ensure effective resource allocation and coordination among departments. Prasad also stressed the need for immediate action against water contamination and insect-borne diseases like dengue and malaria.

The meeting was attended by taluka health officers, municipal chief officers, and district-level health officials, including District Disaster Management Authority Officer Ranveer Rawal.
