Maharashtra State Health Department has launched a comprehensive healthcare initiative for lakhs of Warkaris on their spiritual journey to Pandharpur for the auspicious Ashadhi Ekadashi.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and the proactive guidance of Health Minister Prakash Abitkar and Minister of State for Health Meghna Sakore-Bordikar, meticulous preparations have been made to provide round-the-clock healthcare access to Warkaris.
On June 17, 2025, the Deputy Director of Health Services (Pune) and Control Officer for Wari 2025 undertook a review visit to the Alandi Rural Hospital — a key point on the Palkhi route. The inspection focused on cleanliness, medicine stockpiles, and the readiness of medical teams.
Directions were issued to ensure that every aspect of healthcare delivery — from emergency response to routine treatment — operates without interruption throughout the Wari.
24/7 Medical Support: Fully operational health outposts have been set up along the procession route, offering continuous medical assistance.
Deployment of Medical Experts: Skilled doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff are stationed at various health centers and accompany the Palkhi.
Mobile Medical Units and Ambulances: Equipped to handle emergencies, these units will travel with the Palkhi to provide immediate care.
Essential Medicine and Equipment Stock: Sufficient availability of first-aid supplies, life-saving drugs, and diagnostic tools has been ensured.
Free Health Check-up Camps: To be organized at Palkhi halting stations, offering screening for common ailments and vital health parameters.
Critical Care (ICU) Facilities: Established at strategic locations to treat serious cases requiring intensive care.
Special Focus on Women’s Health: Gynecological services and 'Hirakani' rooms for rest and recovery of female devotees at major halts.

The initiative is being executed through collaboration between the Health Department, voluntary organizations, and local governing bodies, ensuring a multi-tiered response system. Cleanliness, safety, and health have been prioritized to support the spiritual journey of every pilgrim.
Authorities have urged Warkaris to avail themselves of the healthcare services offered and take necessary precautions to maintain personal health during the pilgrimage. The department also appeals to citizens to spread awareness and support fellow devotees.
"This is not just a journey of devotion, but also a mission for health and safety. The Wari symbolizes unity, and this initiative adds a new dimension to it by protecting the health of those walking for faith," said an official from the Health Department.
