Residents of the Sinhagad Road are raising issues over the alleged crack in the newly opened flyover in Pune.
The video of the crack developed at the new flyover on Sinhagad Road, in front of Mohite Township, appears to have developed a crack. The video was posted by Shiv Sena (UBT) member Mahesh Pokale.
Pokale said that the crack has led to questions in the minds of the residents, and the municipal administration should provide an explanation about what exactly this issue is, so that it helps clear the confusion in the minds of citizens.
Meanwhile, Dinkar Godraje, Superintending Engineer, PMC, said in reply to a query by Pokale that it is an expansion joint and not a structural defect, and it will lead to no issue.
Expansion joints in flyovers are crucial for accommodating movement caused by temperature changes and other factors, ensuring structural integrity and safety.
The flyover was opened after a long delay on May 1 by Ajit Pawar.
Second flyover misses deadline
Meanwhile, as Pune continues to struggle with traffic snarls, incomplete and delayed projects are adding to the woes of Punekars. Among these, the flyovers on Sinhagad Road have been under scrutiny due to missed deadlines. The flyover that was launched on May 1st had already sparked controversy when residents began using it before its official inauguration.
The incomplete section of the flyover connecting Wadgaon to Rajaram Bridge on Sinhagad Road is causing daily inconvenience to commuters. The poor condition of the road, worsened by ongoing rainfall, is slowing down traffic and leading to frequent congestion during peak hours.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed work on its 2.2 km-long lane on one side, while the work on the opposite side lane of 1.54 km from Indian Hume Pipe to Inamdar Chowk was supposed to be completed in June earlier.
