Under the banner of “Mahila Aayog Aplya Daari” (Women’s Commission at Your Doorstep), the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission conducted a three-day public hearing tour in Pune district, addressing a total of 305 complaints.

Rupali Chakankar, chairperson of the State Women’s Commission highlighted that the Commission is committed to ensuring justice for women.

The tour occurred from April 15 to 17 across different parts of the district due to its vast geographical spread. On April 15, a hearing was held for Pune city where 123 complaints were acted upon. On April 16, hearings for Pune rural areas saw 87 complaints addressed. The final day, April 17, focused on Pimpri-Chinchwad, during which 95 complaints were handled. Along with the Chairperson, Member Secretary Nandini Awade was also present during the proceedings.

Speaking on the occasion, Chakankar explained, “The Commission’s headquarters is based in Mumbai, and it is often not feasible for women from remote corners of the state to travel there due to financial and social constraints. Hence, the Commission proactively travels to the districts, bringing along a team comprising district collectors, police superintendents, legal service officers, and others. This ensures that women receive immediate support and justice on the spot.”

She highlighted that the majority of the complaints over the three days were related to domestic disputes and family conflicts. Other complaints included workplace harassment and financial fraud. The Commission places special emphasis on counseling couples and families in distress, helping them to reconcile and rebuild their relationships. Legal advice and police support are also provided where needed.

After the public hearings, the Commission also conducted a review meeting with local administrative departments.
