Navi Mumbai: In a powerful demonstration of youth-led environmental activism, more than 1.77 lakh students from across Navi Mumbai participated in a large-scale awareness rally on the occasion of World Earth Day.
The initiative saw students from 434 municipal primary and secondary schools take to the streets in early morning processions to spread the message of ecological conservation.

"World Earth Day, observed globally on April 22, was given a vibrant and meaningful expression in Navi Mumbai through the unprecedented student participation. The initiative not only raised environmental awareness but also showcased the power of youth in driving social change and community participation for a sustainable future," said the municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde.
Held under the state-wide campaign "Save Environment – Enrich Earth", which runs from April 22 to May 1, the event was part of a broader series of activities spearheaded by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) Education Department. " These efforts aim to nurture a culture of sustainability among the city’s youth by actively involving them in environmental initiatives," said an official.
Students marched with banners, placards, and slogans promoting environmental awareness, calling on citizens to take action in preserving and protecting the Earth. The rallies, held in school neighborhoods, aimed to connect directly with the community and encourage environmentally responsible behavior.
In many locations, the rallies also witnessed enthusiastic participation from school management committee members, teachers, education enthusiasts, parents, and senior citizens.
Following the rally, students and participants took a unified pledge to protect the environment. Educators and senior community members also encouraged students to plant and care for at least one tree, especially on their birthdays, as a personal commitment to a greener planet.
