Mumbai: The first campus of the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IITC) was launched on Friday at the NFDC complex, Pedder Road, by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Union minister for railways, IT, Electronics, information & broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The centre aims to innovate, upscale the learning in graphics and cutting edge digital skills and make India the global hub for entertainment technology.

The campus admissions for 17 courses have started and by September, 2025 full fledged classes will begin. Courses ranging from three months to one year and more will enroll students from across the country. Having new tools, skills, ideas are important for a creative economy like India, Vaishnaw emphasised.

Maharashtra government and particularly CM Fadnavis were very supportive for the quick launch of IICT. A Rs 400 crore international level IICT campus will come up in Filmcity, Goregaon (east) in multiple phases. International tech giants like META, Apple and others will be collaborating with IICT. Industry will be part of the integrated learning in this campus.

Fadnavis said Mumbai will be the entertainment capital of the world with a bubbling creative economy enhanced by iconic institutions like IICT. Terming WAVE summit held in Mumbai in May as a huge success, he said IICT will also be a place for those interested in technology to experience the marvels of the centre.

A Davos like summit will take shape in India with our strong "creator's economy" whether it was entertainment or IT related, he felt. Opening the Bharat Pavillion at Gulshan Mahal in the NFDC complex, he pointed out this will be the new destination for visitors to Mumbai.

With budgetary support of Rs 400 crore from the Union government and Rs 150 crore from the state government, IICT will be industry driven with academic, R & D, skill development and industry development councils will have participation of Indian corporates.

The vision is to make Indian entertainment industry a global super soft power. Wave 2025 held recently saw a big surge by foreign players interested in Indian entertainment market. How much of these will help India to attract foreign investments besides boost software exports remains to be seen, the CM added.
