The Sahar police have booked two passengers for allegedly smoking inside an IndiGo flight. The accused, Kamaljit Singh, 37, and Komaljit Singh, 30, reportedly smoked in the lavatories during the flight in separate incidents. The case was registered on April 20.

According to the FIR, on April 20, IndiGo flight 6E1492 from Dubai to Mumbai departed at 12.30am. During the flight, Kamaljit Singh, who was seated in seat 11A, asked a crew member if he could smoke onboard. The crew member firmly informed him that smoking is strictly prohibited on the flight and warned that any violation would have legal consequences.

Around 3.30am, a crew member, Pravinavalli Manoranjan, noticed the smell of smoke coming from one of the lavatories. Upon checking, she discovered signs that someone had smoked inside. She confronted Kamaljit Singh, who responded that he had misunderstood a notice and thought smoking was allowed.

Later, the crew discovered that another passenger, Komaljit Singh, who was seated in seat 11C, had also smoked in a different lavatory. When confronted by the crew, he apologised and said he would not repeat the mistake. Both accused are drivers and residents of Punjab.

On behalf of the airline, crew member Manoranjan filed a complaint against both passengers. Accordingly, the Sahar police registered a case under Section 25 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937, which deals with smoking regulations on Indian-registered aircraft, and Section 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
