Thane: After 15 hours of search operations carried out by the NDRF team, the dead bodies of two brothers were found one kilometer away from the spot. They drowned while fishing in a small dam on Friday evening.

The victims have been identified as Sagar Dhumal (35) and Akshay Dhumal, alias Chhotya (30), both residents of Gorsai and worked as employees in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Sagar had been married just a year ago.

According to officials, the incident occurred at a dam connected to the Kamvari river. The brothers had gone fishing when Akshay accidentally slipped and fell into the water. In an attempt to rescue him, his elder brother Sagar jumped in, but sadly, both drowned, as per police.

The Bhiwandi fire brigade launched a search operation at around 5:10 PM after being alerted by local villagers. “We rushed to the spot with two fire engines immediately after receiving the call,” said a fire officer from the Bhiwandi fire station.

The rescue operation, conducted jointly by the fire brigade, local villagers, and the Taluka police, continued for over three hours but yielded no results. As night fell, the search was called off and is expected to resume on Saturday morning.

Taluka Police Inspector Harshvardhan Barve told FPJ that a team of NDRF arrived in the early morning and began the search operation. Bodies were discovered one kilometer away from the spot, retrieved, and sent to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Bhiwandi, where a post-mortem was performed and later the bodies were handed over to the family members for final rites.
