Mumbai: In a major breakthrough, the Vinoba Bhave Nagar Police have arrested two hardened criminals involved in a serious assault and attempted murder case. The arrests were made in a forested area near Dongripada, Ghodbunder Road, Thane, after a well-planned operation based on technical intelligence and confidential informants.
On the night of May 13, around 11:30 PM, the complainant was returning home after paying a rickshaw fare when two local habitual offenders — Datta Mangesh Patil alias Sheru and Mahesh Krishna Maharana alias Panda — allegedly accosted him without provocation, verbally abused him, and assaulted him on the street.
When the complainant’s brother-in-law and father intervened to stop the altercation, Sheru allegedly attacked the brother-in-law with a chopper, injuring his right hand. Panda then reportedly stabbed the complainant's father in the chest with a chopper with the intent to kill. Along with them, Pratik Pravin Sakpal and two unidentified accomplices are said to have physically assaulted the victims and threatened to kill them in front of bystanders while brandishing choppers.

A case was registered at Vinoba Bhave Nagar Police Station under sections 109(1), 189(4), 191(3), 194(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
