Thane: The Encroachment Department of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has taken action against a total of 124 illegal constructions across the city so far.
According to civic officials, the TMC launched a crackdown on unauthorized structures across all its wards following directions from the High Court. The demolition drive has been ongoing daily since June 19.
As part of the operation, 18 buildings have already been demolished in the MK Compound area of Shil, Mumbra, out of a total of 21 structures identified for action.
A special encroachment team has been formed under each of the nine ward offices, led by respective Deputy Municipal Commissioners, as per the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao. These teams are tasked with taking strict action against illegal buildings and constructions.
Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment Department) Shankar Patole said the drive targets unauthorized chawls, illegal squatting structures, additional sheds, extended constructions, RCC buildings built without permission, unauthorized bungalows, structures built along drains, illegal wells on reserved plots, and unauthorized turf grounds.

The demolition work is being carried out with the help of Poklenes, JCBs, gas cutters, tractor-mounted breakers, and a dedicated demolition workforce. The action is being conducted under the protection of Thane police and the Maharashtra Security Force.
