Mumbai: In a hit-and-run case, a 38-year-old employee of the Dahisar toll plaza died in an accident at the plaza in the early hours of Saturday. The deceased, identified as Nagesh Usirala, was standing at the Dahisar toll plaza issuing receipts when the incident occurred. At that time, a trailer truck arrived at the plaza.
The truck was heavily loaded with goods, and part of the load was protruding. Usirala was stuck between the goods and the booth cabin, and due to the heavy impact, he became unconscious and lost his life. The truck driver fled the spot. The Dahisar police registered a case against the truck driver on July 5.
According to the FIR, Nagesh Usirala, a resident of Dahisar East, was on night duty on Saturday. He was deployed at booth no. 1 on the northbound side. At around 5:30 am, he was issuing toll receipts when a trailer truck arrived at the plaza. The truck was heavily loaded with goods covered with a yellow plastic sheet, but part of the load was protruding dangerously.
As the truck had a FASTag, Nagesh opened the plaza barricade. When the truck was passing through, the heavy load caused the booth to bend from the left side. Meanwhile, Nagesh, who was standing on the right side of the booth, got stuck between the goods and the booth cabin. Due to the impact and suffocation, he became unconscious.
The truck continued moving, and the goods struck his whole body, tearing his T-shirt and trousers. He sustained severe injuries to his chest and back, with skin peeled and a serious injury to his left elbow.
The truck driver did not stop and fled towards Mira Road. His colleagues rushed him to Samarpan Hospital in Dahisar East, but doctors declared him dead before admission after examining him.

Toll plaza staff provided the truck’s registration number to the police, who are now searching for the driver. The police have registered a case against the truck driver under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
