Thane: A disturbing case of stalking and online harassment involving the misuse of social media has come to light in Ambernath East. The incident involves the creation of obscene videos by morphing photos of a young woman without her consent. A case has been registered at Shivajinagar Police Station against Instagram users with IDs dp2211012, akshay22117734, Lawrence_bishnoi_70, along with two mobile numbers.
In recent years, several cases have emerged where women are harassed online through stalking, unwanted messages, and pressure for friendship. Some perpetrators have even taken the harassment further by misusing women’s photos from social media platforms like a incident happened in Ambernath, reported by Loksatta.
According to the complaint, the accused repeatedly sent follow requests and messages to the complainant’s Instagram account. They stalked her persistently, then downloaded her photos without permission. These images were altered using software to create obscene videos, which were subsequently uploaded online. The complainant is a resident of Ambernath East.
Upon receiving the complaint, police registered a case and initiated investigations into the Instagram accounts and mobile numbers involved. With assistance from cybercrime experts, the accused are being traced, as reported.
Police have also urged citizens to remain vigilant against such online crimes. They emphasized the importance of using strict privacy settings while sharing personal photos, videos, or information on social media to minimize the risk of such misuse.
