Thane: The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a 52-year-old clerk of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation while taking a bribe of Rs 1,500 from the complainant for allegedly providing marriage certificates in Kalyan.
The clerk has been identified as Santosh Gajanan Pathane (52), who is posted at the 'I' Ward office in the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (Nagari Suvidha Kendra).The ACB officials said that an FIR has been filed under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act against Pathane at the Kolsewadi police station.
According to the ACB officials, the complainant had given a marriage certificate application through his cousin to the KDMC. In the application, the witness was not local and did not have any relatives; that was not changed, and was requested to provide the marriage certificate as soon as possible. The clerk demanded Rs 2000 from the complainant. Thereafter, the complainant approached the ACB office in Thane and filed a complaint against him on April 8.

Upon verification of the same, on April 9, it was revealed that the clerk demanded Rs 1500 from the complainant for not changing the witness's name in the application and providing the marriage certificate as soon as possible. Following this, the ACB team set up a trap and caught him red-handed while taking Rs 1500 from the complainant. Further investigation is ongoing.
