Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Bombay HC’s Justice AS Chandurkar, 2 Others For Elevation To Apex Court

The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended names of three High Court judges to be appointed as judges of the Supreme Court of India, including Justice AS Chandurkar of the Bombay High Court. The recommendation was made by the Collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India BR Gavai.

Mumbai: The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday recommended names of three High Court judges to be appointed as judges of the Supreme Court of India, including Justice AS Chandurkar of the Bombay High Court. The recommendation was made by the Collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India BR Gavai.

The other judges recommended for elevation to the top court are Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court NV Anjaria (parente HC is Gujarat) and Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court Justice Vijay Bishnoi (parent HC is Rajasthan).

Born on April 7, 1965, Justice Chandurkar completed schooling at St. Vincents' High School, Pune. He graduated from Ness Wadia College, Pune and also ILS Law College, Pune.

After obtaining Law Degree, joined the Bar on July 21, 1988 and commenced practise in the Chambers of BN Naik, Sr. Advocate, Mumbai who was later elevated to the Bench. He later shifted to Nagpur in 1992 and practised in various Courts.

He has authored two books – The Maharashtra Municipal Council Nagar Panchayats & Industrial Townships Act, 1965 and The Maharashtra Rent Control Act, 1999. He was appointed as additional judge of the HC on June 21, 2013.
